Bamboo is fast-growing grass that mainly grows in Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. There are more than 1200 different bamboo species that are all highly adaptable and can grow in a variety of climates. Bamboo is a sustainable alternative for tropical hardwood and other non-sustainable materials. It’s a plant that grows easily, is very strong and self-generates. What’s not to love!
Why is bamboo sustainable?
1) Bamboo grows incredibly fast
A bamboo plant can grow up to one meter a day. That’s three times as fast as the fastest growing tree on the planet. It can grow to it’s full size in just under 5 months, whereas trees can take years to reach their full size.
2) Bamboo is a 100% biodegradable and is naturally renewing
A plant that renews itself? Yes, that’s exactly what bamboo does! After harvesting the bamboo crops, the bamboo stems naturally grow back from their own roots. Therefore, bamboo doesn’t need to be replanted.
